Whenever Lambrego return to AWIL it’s always with sparkling new ideas and ever-increasing brilliance. Brighton-Brazil duo, Hannah Dunster and Fernando Machado are constantly evolving within their creative partnership and have just completed a glittering nationwide tour featuring collaborations with São Paulo’s Beatriz Tomaz, Let Drum Beat’s Alba Cabral, visual artist Somang Lee and iyatra Quartet. Along the way Lambrego have enhanced their infinite talent for colloquial song-writing, adding ocean drums and EFX loops to their existing arsenal of flutes, guitar, and homely vocals. The initial result is a brand new EP called ‘Blink’, boasting soul-stirring songs, flooded with harmony, and bathed in Brazilian sunlight. ‘Blink’ and www.lambrego.com will both be launched at The Southbank Centre on December 9th at AWIL Live, when Lambrego take to the stage at 1pm with new collaborator Noga Ritter from Vocal-Global & Live Music Now. Sample some sultry snippets exclusively on this AWIL, and mark December 9th in your diary for a chance to see them in London this side of Xmas before 2016 is gone in the blink of an eye!

Matteo Ricordo
Five-piece group Ailm got together only a few months ago, yet are already one of the most impressive bands in the vanguard of new wave folk music coming out of the UK. Featuring the versatile & superb voice of Slovak Londoner, Lori Secanska, who also sings with klezmer outfit Oysland, and mesmerising songs composed by skilled multi-instrumentalist Alex Paton, Ailm’s line-up is a perfect counterpoint to Brexit, with Italian- born Matteo Riccordo on percussion, classically trained cellist Clarissa Carlyon, and guitar virtuoso Richard Collins completing the line-up.

Richard Collins
Ailm champion ‘that’ Celtic romance sound we kind of know but want to explore more, adding epic & dramatic overtones to their material, layered in fantasy & folklore. Their first and excellent album, also named Ailm, is out just now on digital release, and you can hear an exclusive preview of it right here on this AWIL!

For his third album release, Pennsylvania-raised, London-based trumpeter Andre Canniere shifts in an oblique direction from previous albums Forward Space and Coalescence with original compositions inspired by the words of Bohemian-Austrian poet Rainer Maria Rilke and American author Charles Bukowski.

Ivo Neame
Hug the dark
Charles Bukowski

turmoil is the god...
madness is the god

permanent living peace is
permanent living death

agony can kill
or
agony can sustain life
but peace is always horrifying
peace is the worst thing
walking
talking
smiling
seeming to be.

don't forget the sidewalks
the whores
betrayal,
the worm in the apple,
the bars, the jails,
the suicides of lovers.

here is America
we have assassinated a president and his brother,
another president has quit office.

people who believe in politics
are like people who believe in god:
they are sucking wind through bent
straws.

there is no god
there are no politics
there is no peace
there is no love.

there is no control
there is no plan.

stay away from god
remain disturbed

slide.

ENNE & Adesh Sundaresan - A World in London

Adesh Sundaresan
ENNE
Adesh Sundaresan

Date - 2nd November 2016
Venue - A World in London, Resonance FM, London, UK

Wonderful up and coming new artists from London International Arts Festival – ENNÈ and Adesh Sundaresan - on this A World In London!

Click here to listen: www.mixcloud.com/Resonance/a-world-in-london-2nd-november-2016

ENNÈ
ENNÈ wears her music as a second skin, learning classical violin from a young age, and then adding piano, cello, ukulele, and finally guitar just in the last year! All of these instruments work aside her vocal one which ENNÈ toys with and teases to great new heights through a range of genres including her own invention – opera-reggae!. Her creativity doesn't stop at music despite sharing stages with legends like Earth Wind & Fire and Lee Scratch Perry because her interests are boundless involving film-making, mentoring, poetry and much more. For ENNÈ the sky is the limit and she is poised to punch through a few glass ceilings along the way.

Adesh Sundaresan is gifted with a voice from heaven, one that he has toned, muscled, and finessed in a very short space of time given his tender age - in Carnatic music circles - of just 21. He’s a West London guy with Mumbai & Chennai roots, studying medicine 'just in case'. Somehow we don’t think he’ll be needing a day job though because his healing powers are already evident as a musician rather than as a physician! www.liaf.co.uk Nov 2nd – 7th across London!

Donal Rogers
So many tracks these days revolve around an ‘Ooh baby’ sample - looped, pasted, and disposable in our Spotify- Snapchat times. Is this really all there is? Baby. But then a band like Ranagri roar gallantly to the rescue, with Gaelic roots, bansuri flutes, harp, bodhran,  golden harmonies and the voice of Donal Rogers, entwined around some good old-fashioned SONGS. There’s a fresh treasure trove of these on their new album ‘Voices’, a perfect accompaniment to glass of wine by the fireside, to warm the cockles of your heart and coax you through winter, until the hares and daffodils return in Spring. By then the talented song-writing team of Eliza Marshall, Jean Kelly, Joe Danks, and that man - Donal Rogers, will be back with a new CD including a cover version of Del Amitri’s ‘You’re Gone’. Hear an exclusive preview of that on this AWIL – our 200th edition at SOAS Radio - and thank your lucky stars that Ranagri are on a roll and feeling prolific, because with real songs like these, all is well in our world.
