Mulele Matondo
Jazz-tastic Afro-grooves with Kongo Dia Ntotila on this A World In London!

Mike Soper - trumpet
Mulele Matondo is one of the most versatile London-based musicians, connecting his Congolese roots with our creative capital. But, it's in this band, Kongo Dia Ntotila, that Mulele seems most at home and full of even ‘mo fire’! The band first formed in Leeds in 2008 and regrouped in London last year, uniting the sparkling talents of jazz musicians John Kelly, William Scott, and Mike Soper. Matching Mulele word-for-word rhythmically & vocally, is David Lessie on drums, a childhood pal from Kinshasa. KDN’s songs are sung in Lingala and cover meaty subjects like political corruption and disunity in Africa, yet there’s more than adequate room for some pulsating upbeat tunes too, putting the dance back into Jazz, Congolese style!

John Kelly - guitar
Each song twists and turns through a multitude of time signatures and genres, constantly moving with the element of surprise. But when John strikes up the seben on his guitar, a palpable buzz resonates, and on this AWIL we ALL left the studio on a high! Kongo Dia Ntotila’s follow up album to their mighty debut ‘Seben Steps To Heaven’ is due in July, but before then catch them on this AWIL, and live in London at Hootananny, Brixton, March 12th! More UK dates TBA on kongodiantotila.com or join the party on Facebook @KongoDiaNtotilaMusic and Twitter @kongodiantoti
