Golf Drouot - Vinyl Joblottin' ep.23

Each week on Vinyl Joblottin’ we buy a bundle of vinyl at auction (or find one in a record shop, charity shop, car boot sale, etc). The records are a slice of a collection, giving us a glimpse into a collector’s past. Then we spin each joblot into a theme for you.

These records were released in France between 1962 and 1964. When I began listening and researching them they led to the 9th arrondissement of Paris. On the corner of rue Drouot and Boulevard Montmartre, above the Café d'Angleterre, I found France’s ‘Temple of Rock’. It was called Golf Drouot, and hosted such great names as Johnny Hallyday, Eddy Mitchell, Gene Vincent, the Who and David Bowie.

I would like to spend a month in Paris. My days would be full of sketching, visiting galleries and hunting for vinyl in record shops. In a recent joblot I found a 7” single from the MGM film soundtrack An American In Paris. It has inspired me find other records from Americans who have called Paris their home.

Alban Low is your Joblotter. This Joblot of 6 records cost £5.40.

Tracklist
1. Depuis Longtemps - Harold Nicholas
2. Lonesome - Memphis Slim
3. Love Me Or Leave Me - Nina Simone
4. Last Tango In Paris - Gato Barbieri And His Orchestra
5. I'll Build A Stairway To Paradise - Georges Guetary
6. Squire's Parlor - Phil Woods
